Massive Guild Wars 2 contents revealed!

Naoroji from the Guildwars2guru.com forums took the liberty of translating the Guild Wars 2 article from Dutch gaming magazine PCGameplay. The said article was an interview packing with information regarding the 2010 sequel, Guild Wars 2.

The game is set 250 years after the events of Guild Wars 1, but this time fighting against a new threat called the Elder Dragons. Players now have access to five different races, compared to the first game that allowed only humans. Each race will have unique racial skills and characteristics that clearly diversifies the playing field.

An addition to the game is the presence of companions or henchmen to accompany players during solo adventures. These henchmen are similar to the first game’s Heroes, but does not take up a party slot. The party slots can be used instead by other players who would want to join the adventure.

The MMORPG’s best feature, PvP, is not to be dismissed either. This Guild Wars sequel has combined RTS elements to its siege battles. Taking advantage of the terrain, and additional defense mechanisms like catapults are key elements to winning. Also, Guild Wars 2 has integrated a “World PvP” system. This is a server versus server PvP battle, enabling every single player across all servers to participate in a massive battle.

You may find more information at Guildwars2guru.com.

Final Fantasy XIV breaks its silence!

We’ve had little luck finding news and leaked stuff about Final Fantasy XIV so far after it surfaced last E3 2009 and TGS 2009. Thankfully, Square Enix had the pleasure of teasing us further with a newly-updated website. The official Final Fantasy XIV site is now packing with more information. Partial bestiary profiles, character class previews, an introductory card system and some wonderful landsacpe art from Yoshitaka Amano can be viewed from the site’s highly-anticipated MMORPG.

Final Fantasy XIV introduces a “Disciple” system, the game’s character class divisions, divided into four: War, Magic, Hand and Land. The first two disciples are for physical and magic combat respectively. Disciples of the Hand and Land are two classes meant for tradeskills and hunting/harvesting. Each discipline has different professions within it, such as the unique Culinarian and Tanner classes for Disciples of the Land.

Check out more updates on the official Final Fantasy XIV site

I would like to be an alpha tester, beta tester and commercial player for this game!

Aeria Games acquires Grand Fantasia

Aeria Games has acquired distribution rights to the MMORPG Grand Fantasia last October 1, 2009.

According to the news, Grand Fantasia is a mixture of MMORPG and Virtual Pet elements through the use of “sprites” in a magical world. The game’s visuals are in your typical anime style in a medieval world. Watch out for more news regarding its beta tests.

Aion’s Idle Pastime: booting idle shopkeepers

In a fairly recent server maintenance, Aion NA tweaked the private store policies to prevent idle or AFK shopkeepers from staying logged in the game for very long periods of time. A 30-minute timer is imposed on shopkeepers, and will be booted out of the game if the timer expires without any response from the player. Naturally, if the player responds, the shop won’t be booted out. This is to prevent long queues of players attempting to enter the game especially during peak hours.

The said exploit was to stay in-game for long hours just by opening shop, overpricing some random item, then going AFK to do some other stuff. This creates long lines for people trying to login. The lesser the people logging out, the longer the queues get.

Thankfully, this is resolved… at least until someone manages to automatically “un-idle” the character before that 30-minute timer expires.

Final Fantasy XIV Online puts XI in corner of woe

TGS is nothing without a Final Fantasy video. Here’s one trailer of Final Fantasy XIV Online, courtest of Gamevideos.com.

The online game takes place in a land called Eorzea. Just like its FFXI predecessor, XIV will feature numerous races and a fusion of fantasy and technology, typical of the Final Fantasy series.

There’s been a lot of good news circling around this new online venture. The best of which was the non-involvement of the PlayOnline system for the game’s subscription option. Unfortunately for XBox 360 users, the game might not reach Microsoft’s flagship consoles upon launch.

My dreams of playing an online FF game may come true soon!

Bad Momma turns into ANGRY Bad Momma

World of Warcraft’s latest patchnotes reveal the return of the famous Brood Mother Onyxia. This time, she’s badder and tougher than ever before. If you think Onyxia was a wuss in your previous encounters, then the latest patch will make you wet yourself on your seat.

Players may know Onyxia to be easily defeated by a good party of four or so. Patch 3.2.2 upscales the Brood Mother for level 80 players in a 10 to 25-man raid. She now drops level 80 versions of her usual level 60 loots. Plus, lucky players can grab hold of the very rare 310%-speed mount Onyxia model.

You can find more of the latest 3.2.2 patch notes on their official site.

Wonders how fast a 310% speed would be…

Aion dumps Gameguard as onlookers jeer

Aion is finally prepping up for its official launch, and a lot of souls will be pleased to hear their news.

Quoted from the site itself:

After analyzing our open beta test results Aion will not feature GameGuard at launch. We will however continue to pursue ways to effectively utilize GameGuard within Aion in the future. Right now we’re focused on providing players with the best possible Aion experience.

Let’s hope the second sentence doesn’t happen anymore. We all know how displeased a lot of gamers are about having Gameguard installed in their systems. It acts as an unwelcoming rootkit; it has compatibility problems with Windows 7; and perhaps the most frustrating thing of all is, not many people one know how Gameguard does its job.

I’d consider this one of the best moves any MMO developer and publisher has done for the gaming public.

Oh, you can also read more from the link provided above. Have fun playing Aion!

Wonders how much a copy and a subscription would cost?

photo Dungeon Runners on its final paces
Here’s the latest scoop on probably the most comedic MMORPG I’ve encountered, Dungeon Runners.
According to their latest news, Dungeon Runners will shut down on January 1, 2010, only barely reaching 3 years into the MMO industry.
As what Stephen Nichols (DR Lead Programmer) said, it’s “crap sandwich” of a news to hear. He bluntly expresses that the game “isn’t just profitable.” And although the DR team have come up with ideas to generate more profit and more player interest, but the risks were too high and too expensive, according to Stephen.
Having been reduced from five-man to a three-man team, Stephen blatantly stated that there was no choice but to shutdown the game.
On the good side, NCSoft is offering a free 30-day playtime and digital copies of City of Heroes: Architect Edition and Guild Wars Prophecies for paying players of DR. Refunds of multiple-month membership purchases will also be taken care of. The developers will be “quintupling” exp gain and item drop rates to give everyone a chance to powerlevel to 100 before the shutdown comes.
One of Stephen’s final words were:
“Finally, we’re adding a huge nuke to Townston that will blow up on New Year’s and take the game down with it. There’s more, but what fun is there in spilling all the beans? “
For an NCSoft game, Dungeon Runners certainly wasn’t that much visible on our gaming radars. I speak for the players of DR, it was fun while it lasted.
What MMO game will shutdown next?
